• Responsible and accountable for determining required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of geometry, and welding techniques.
• Responsible and accountable for layout, positions, and securing parts and assemblies according to specifications/requirements, using straight edge, combination square, calipers, and measuring tapes.
• Responsible and accountable for welding components and assemblies, using ARC with mixture of gases and inspecting spark back arrestor or other welding equipment.
• Melts lead wire, or scrap to add lead to joint or to extrude melted scrap into reusable form.
• Observes tests on welding rod, welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic to evaluate welding quality and conformance to specifications
• Removes rough spots from workpiece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
• Welds components in flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions.
• Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
• Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
• Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
• Calculate dimensions to be welded
• Inspect structures or materials to be welded
• Responsible and accountable for monitoring the welding process to avoid overheating
