Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to join our finance team. This role is integral to ensuring the financial health of our company by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and providing insights into our financial performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, experience in the marine or transportation industry, and excellent analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and other financial documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Cost Accounting: Knowledge of cost accounting and financial management principles as they apply to marine operations, such as ship maintenance costs, fuel expenses, and port charges.
- Taxation: Understanding of tax regulations and practices related to maritime operations, including international tax considerations and VAT/GST.
- Account Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliation of accounts, including bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and subsidiary ledgers.
- Expense Management: Monitor and control expenses, including processing invoices, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring timely payments.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, and provide variance analysis to support strategic planning.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to financial regulations and company policies, and prepare documentation for audits and regulatory reviews.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including operations and procurement, to address financial issues and streamline processes.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, ACCA or CMA designation is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-6 years of accounting experience, preferably in the marine or transportation industry.
- Skills: Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
