Job Context:
MAGMA Waste Treatment Services will operate and maintain two industrial Waste Treatment Facilities (IWTF) in Ruwais (Abu Dhabi - United Arab Emirates) with around 200 employees.
The Hazardous Waste Treatment Facility (HWTF or BeAAT) includes TDU, deoiling tricanter, Stabilization, Class I and II landfill, PCT, mercury treatment unit, and Incineration lines with a capacity around 60 KTA;
The Natural Occurring Radioactive Materials Treatment Facility (NORM) is a new 6,5 KTA decontamination facility, including a high pressure water descaling system, incineration and encapsulation of ashes.
Two / third of the assets were commissioned in 2021 and some alignment works, process, procedures should be implemented to comply with Veolia standards.
Job position Summary:
The Team Leader - Operations plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations of the hazardous &/or Radio Active waste treatment facility (BeAAT and/or Norm). Reporting to the Process & Operations Manager, the Team Leader is responsible for managing the Control Room Operators and ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the facility. This includes supervising control room operations, coordinating with various teams, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a team of Control Room Operators, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback to ensure operational excellence.
- Coordinate and allocate resources effectively to ensure sufficient coverage and smooth operation of the control room on a 24/7 basis.
- Oversee control room operations, including monitoring process parameters, responding to alarms, and initiating appropriate actions to maintain optimal performance and safety.
- Collaborate with the Process & Operations Manager to develop and implement operational strategies, standard operating procedures, and work instructions to enhance efficiency and safety.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations of Control Room Operators, identifying training needs, and facilitating training programs to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies related to safety, environmental stewardship, and hazardous waste treatment.
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the team by promoting adherence to standard operating procedures and best practices.
- Collaborate with maintenance personnel to schedule and coordinate maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Monitor key performance indicators, operational metrics, and trends to identify areas for improvement and implement appropriate measures.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration with other teams, such as field operators, maintenance, and laboratory personnel, to optimize overall facility performance.
- Promote a positive work environment by encouraging teamwork, resolving conflicts, and recognizing team members' contributions.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes in hazardous waste treatment operations, and provide recommendations for process enhancements or upgrades.
- Ensure a smooth transition in the beginning of the contract, in their area of responsibility

- Foster collaborative long-term working relationships with the facilities’ management and staff.

Educational background required:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, possess operations or related discipline.
- Additional certifications or training in leadership or management are preferred.
Experience required:
- 12+ years of experience in an industrial environment/ waste management facility industry along with the field of waste treatment operation and disposal plants or oil refining industry including adequate knowledge of radioactive waste characterization, sampling practices and general management practices.
- 5+ years of experience working in a similar role in a process-driven environment, preferably in a hazardous waste treatment facility or a related industry.
- Proven experience in leading and managing a team, including performance management, coaching, and development.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to process control, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Proficient in the use of control room software, and data analysis tools.
