Job Brief
The role is responsible for performing hydrostatic testing on stainless steel and nickel alloy seamless pipes and tubes to verify pressure integrity, leak tightness, and compliance with international standards and customer specifications. The inspector ensures safe execution of tests, accurate recording of results, and full traceability of inspected products.
Key Responsibilities
Test Preparation
Review ITP (Inspection & Test Plan), work orders, and customer specifications for hydrostatic testing.
Verify calibration status and proper functioning of hydro test benches, pressure gauges, safety valves, and recording devices.
Ensure proper cleaning, adequate water supply, and suitable temperature conditions prior to testing.
Set up safety barriers, warning signage, and confirm PPE requirements with inspectors.
Hydrostatic Testing Execution
Conduct hydrostatic testing in accordance with ASME, ASTM, EN, Aramco, and customer-specific standards.
Gradually increase pressure to the required level, monitor hold time, and check for leaks, deformation, or failures.
Verify acceptance criteria, ensuring no leakage, no permanent deformation, and no pressure drop beyond specified limits.
Operate automatic recording systems and validate pressure-time graphs.
Result Interpretation & Reporting
Record all test parameters including pressure, hold time, temperature, operator details, and product identification.
Identify nonconforming pipes or tubes and segregate them for NCR issuance.
Prepare detailed hydrostatic test reports with traceability to lot numbers, when required.
Upload test results into MES systems and archive hard copies in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce HSE procedures during hydrostatic testing operations.
Prevent over-pressurization by continuously monitoring pressure gauges and relief valves.
Ensure unauthorized personnel do not enter the test area.
Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or equipment malfunctions immediately to the Quality Process Foreman.
Coordination & Support
Support the Foreman by providing consolidated inspection records for audits.
Coordinate with customer representatives or third-party inspectors during witness or hold points.
Adjust scanning parameters during production when required.
Generate automated reports from the hydrostatic testing system and validate data accuracy.
Requirements & Skills
Minimum Diploma in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
3–5 years of hydrostatic test inspection experience in steel or alloy industries.
Experience in seamless pipe and tube manufacturing is preferred.
Knowledge of ASME Section V, ASTM A999, EN 10216-1, and Aramco SAMSS standards related to hydrostatic testing.
NDT certifications (UT, ECT) are an added advantage.
Strong understanding of pressure testing equipment, pumps, gauges, and safety devices.
Ability to interpret pressure-time charts and identify anomalies.
Proficient in report writing and data entry using MES systems.
Good understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015).
Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
Proficiency in MS Office and MES software.
High attention to detail, strong problem-solving ability, and commitment to quality.
