Job Summary:The Steel Structural Fabrication Engineer is responsible for managing, coordinating, and overseeing steel fabrication projects, ensuring quality standards, adherence to project schedules, and cost efficiency. This role involves designing, planning, supervising, and optimizing fabrication processes for steel structures in line with project requirements and safety regulations.Key Responsibilities:Project Planning and Coordination: Develop detailed fabrication plans, schedules, and resource allocations.Coordinate with design, procurement, and construction teams for seamless project execution.Evaluate project specifications and drawings to determine fabrication requirements.Design and Detailing: Review and interpret structural designs and shop drawings.Provide technical inputs for improving designs to enhance manufacturability.Oversee or create structural detailing using software like AutoCAD, Tekla, or SolidWorks.Fabrication Process Management: Supervise the steel fabrication process, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.Monitor welding, cutting, bending, and assembling activities in the workshop.Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, BS, or ISO).Quality Assurance and Control: Conduct inspections and quality checks for fabricated components.Develop and implement quality control measures to prevent defects.Maintain detailed documentation for quality assurance and audits.Material and Resource Management: Oversee procurement of steel and other materials.Ensure optimal utilization of resources to minimize waste and reduce costs.Liaise with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.Team Leadership and Training: Lead and manage workshop teams, including welders, fabricators, and technicians.Provide training on fabrication techniques, safety, and quality standards.Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):Implement safety protocols in the workshop and on-site.Conduct regular safety audits and address any non-compliance issues.Reporting and Documentation: Prepare progress reports, production schedules, and budgetary updates.Document project changes, variations, and fabrication challenges for reference.Qualifications and Skills:Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.Experience:4-15+ years of experience in steel structural fabrication or related field.Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Tekla, SolidWorks).Knowledge of welding techniques, fabrication processes, and material standards.Familiarity with international fabrication standards (AWS, ASME, ISO, etc.).Soft Skills: Strong leadership and communication skills.Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Preferred Certifications:AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWE)Certified Professional in Steel Structures (CPSS)NEBOSH or equivalent safety certificationsWork Environment:Workshop and site-based role with exposure to heavy machinery and tools.Requires adherence to strict safety and quality protocols.
