A Car Key Diagnostic and Programming Technician is responsible for diagnosing key and immobilizer system issues, cutting and programming new car keys, and configuring transponder or smart key systems using specialized diagnostic equipment. This role involves both mechanical and electronic expertise to ensure vehicles are secure and operational with correctly programmed keys. Diagnose problems related to car ignition systems, immobilizers, and key detection failures. Program transponder keys, remote fobs, smart keys, and proximity keyless entry systems. Cut mechanical keys and ensure precise compatibility with vehicle locks. Use specialized tools and automotive diagnostic software via OBD/EEPROM methods. Perform ECU (Engine Control Unit) and immobilizer synchronization. Retrieve or reset security PIN codes and key codes when required. Replace or reprogram lost or stolen keys and disable old keys for security. Assist with key-related emergency roadside support.
